[Openvas-discuss] REDIS-SERVER SOCKET PROBLEM

Good morning everyone.

It would be nice if someone could help me on the issue below:

Just after updated the openvas database (NVDs, etc.) via its standard
method, and trying to run openvas-start, I got an error message and services
didn't start.

The openvas-check-setup, came up with the following error message:

1: Checking OpenVAS Scanner ...

OK: OpenVAS Scanner is present in version 5.1.1.

OK: redis-server is present in version v=4.0.2.

OK: scanner (kb_location setting) is configured properly using the
redis-server socket: /var/run/redis/redis.sock

ERROR: redis-server is not running or not listening on socket:
/var/run/redis/redis.sock

FIX: You should start the redis-server or configure it to listen on socket:
/var/run/redis/redis.sock

----------------------------------------------------------------------------
-------------------------------------------------------------------

WHY suddenly it seems that the redis-server is not listening on its standard
socket and HOW can I FIX it?

Thank you in advance,

Thanks for considering.

1. Yes, I think it does run, because when I run it separately it seems
working OK (so it shows from the command line).
2. The problem happens every time I try to start openvas services. How
should I REstart redis anyway?
3. The problem seems to be that for some reason the redis is not listening
on /var/run/redis/redis.sock, although in its config file the unixsocket is
just that.
4. Thanx for the error reporting tip.

Could you please help with the fails of the redis-server as shown below in service status (e.g. Advanced key-value store)?
as Redis is no part of OpenVAS its probably strongly recommended to seek
out for help at e.g. [1] or another community related/dedicated to your
used Linux distribution.

Thank you for your time.

For your information, the problem was solved by re-installing redis-server.

only for "/lib/systemd/system/redis-server.service; disabled"
(independent of the start problem where you don't provide any useful
informations to help you) i would suggest to hire somebody wo knows what
he is doing when you aare obviosuly not capable to do *anything* like
RTFM and at least "systemctl enable"
